What to document:
The discipline here is to document consistently, not just when things go wrong. A partial record looks like you only wrote things down when it suited you. A complete record looks like what it is: someone who communicates professionally.
JADE — Justify, Argue, Defend, Explain — is the trap. When someone with narcissistic traits makes an accusation, every instinct you have says: explain yourself. Defend your position. Make them understand.
Do not. The explanation becomes new material to attack. The argument becomes proof that you are difficult. The defense becomes something to twist. The justification becomes something to quote out of context six months later.
"I disagree with your characterization. My focus remains on what is best for the children." Then stop. That is enough. You do not owe a full explanation in every message.
